Westmont's Salt Creek Ballet opens the 40th-anniversary run of its full-length Nutcracker over Thanksgiving weekend at Hinsdale Central High School, with shows on Saturday, November 28, 2026 at 1 and 5 p.m. and on Sunday, November 29 at 1 p.m., followed that afternoon by a Sugar Plum Party. The staging tells Tchaikovsky's story in full: Clara's Christmas Eve party at the Von Stahlbaum house, Herr Drosselmeyer's mechanical dolls, the Christmas tree that grows to enormous size at midnight, the battle with the Mouse King and the journey to the Kingdom of Sweets. The dancers wear costumes designed by Galina Solovyeva, a former resident costume designer for the Mariinsky Theatre. It is one of the earliest Nutcracker dates in the western suburbs and a good choice for families who want to see it before December gets busy. Tickets are sold through the ballet's online box office.
