Salt Creek Ballet brings its 40th-anniversary production of The Nutcracker north to the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie for three performances: Friday, December 4, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, December 5 at 1 and 5 p.m. The classical staging follows Clara from her family's Christmas Eve party, where Herr Drosselmeyer gives her the Nutcracker, through the battle with the mice and the snow to the Sugar Plum Fairy's Kingdom of Sweets. The costumes were designed by Galina Solovyeva, formerly resident costume designer at the Mariinsky Theatre. The Saturday matinee is the easiest pick for younger children; the Friday evening show suits older kids and teens. Tickets are sold through the ballet's online box office.
