About this adventure
The Kansas City Automotive Museum in Olathe marks Día de los Muertos with an outdoor car show and community celebration, organized with the Olathe Leadership Lowrider Bike Club and other local groups. Classic, custom, lowrider and culturally themed cars line up for awards (Best in Show, Best Classic, Best Modern), and many owners decorate their trunks as traditional altars. For children there are culturally themed crafts and entertainment, the lowrider bike club's display, and a community ofrenda that visitors can view and add to. Día de los Muertos-themed movies screen at 12:15 pm and 2:00 pm in the museum's indoor Drive-In area, with floor and chair seating, which gives younger kids a warm break. Much of the event is outdoors, so dress for the weather. Car owners register their vehicles for free in advance (spots are limited); spectators just come.
