Ernie Miller Nature Center marks the longest night of the year with a lantern-lit walk through the woods along Little Cedar Creek. Families follow trails lit by luminaries, warm up by the fireside while listening to solstice stories, visit live owls, learn how animals survive the long winter, and gather round for toasted marshmallows. The program is outdoors on about a mile of paved trails that include some steep slopes, so dress warmly. The event lasts 1 to 2 hours on Saturday, December 19 and is for all ages. Everyone, including adults and chaperones, needs a paid spot: $13 per person in advance ($14 nonresidents) or $15 on site if space is available; the park and building are closed to anyone without a ticket during the event.
