About this adventure

The Western Shoshone weekend closes DISCOVERY Children's Museum's Native American Heritage Month activities. In Toddler Town on Level 1, children learn that when the mountains turn gold it is pinyon-nut time: they look at real pinecones through magnifying glasses, view images of the pinyon pine and hear why the tree matters to the Newe people. In the Young at Art gallery, kids explore contemporary art by Western Shoshone artists and paint an animal portrait inspired by the work of Micqaela Jones, a member of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone. At the Patents Pending Science Bench on Level 3, families study a map of the Western Shoshone ancestral territory in Nevada. Activities run during museum hours on both days of the weekend.
