About this adventure
The California Science Center's December Homeschool Day is a 2.5-hour facilitated science class built around Earth science. Students work with rocks and minerals to understand erosion, plate tectonics and how fossils form, using classroom laboratories, the Big Lab and the Science Center's exhibits. Children are grouped by age (5–7, 8–10 or 11–13), with about 20–25 students per class, and families choose either the morning session (9:30 a.m.–12 p.m.) or the afternoon session (1–3:30 p.m.). All supplies are provided; lunch and snacks are not, so eat before or after. A parent or guardian must check each student in at the Big Lab in the Wallis Annenberg Building for Science Learning and Innovation, after which students may be dropped off and must be picked up at the end of the session. Registration is required for every attendee, and children must be 5 by the program date. Parking has a 45-minute grace period for drop-off and pick-up.
