Penn Ice Rink's group Learn to Skate program takes children from age 5 (and adults) from their first steps on the ice through more advanced skills, with skaters placed in age- and skill-appropriate classes after an evaluation. Each five-week session meets on Sunday at noon: a 25-minute lesson followed by 30 minutes of practice. Skate rental is included, and students can stay for Sunday public skating free during their session. Skaters should arrive 30 minutes early to lace up and find their class spot on the ice. Parents of younger students can buy a $35 parent pass to help their child on the ice during practice and public skating. A separate Tots class for ages 3 to 6 will be announced in November, with lessons expected from late November. Sessions 1 and 2 are full; registration for sessions 3 to 6 reopens October 27.
