Downtown Mesa opens its month-long Merry Main Street holiday festival with a free kick-off evening. A special holiday market sets up around Mesa's Christmas tree, followed by a holiday program and the tree lighting. Merry Main Street runs through the season with daily activities and a 6,000-square-foot real ice rink downtown, plus shopping and dining along Main Street; details of the daily schedule and rink are on the festival's own site (MerryMainSt.com). The kick-off runs from 5 to 10 p.m., so families with young children can come early for the market and stay for the lighting.
