Mesa Santa Express is a short holiday ride on a light rail car along Merry Main Street in Downtown Mesa, run since 2016 by the nonprofit Mesa Urban Renewal & Arts Lab (MURAL). In the spirit of the storybook train that carries children to meet Santa Claus, riders sing songs and eat cookies on board, and the highlight for children is meeting Santa. Families are invited to come in festive pajamas or dressed up. Rides depart every 30 minutes from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 11–13. Every rider needs a commemorative ticket: the ticket table opens at 4:00 pm each night at the front of the Mesa Christmas Market, in the same Mesa Drive Park & Ride lot, and ticket holders should be back in the staging line 15 minutes before their ride. When the night's tickets are gone, a standby line fills any open seats. While waiting, families can browse the Christmas market and its stage performances, eat at the Jack Frost Food Truck Forest across the lot, or cross the street to see the Mesa Temple Christmas lights.
