About this adventure
A 7,500-square-foot aquarium on the Newport waterfront where every animal comes from Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island Sound or the state's rivers, streams and ponds. Most are temporary guests returned to the wild after a short stay; non-releasable animals serve as ambassadors in education programs, and the aquarium breeds little skates, northern lined seahorses and chain catsharks. Children can handle animals at sandy-bottom and rocky-shore touch tanks, watch live animal displays and catch naturalist-led talks. Weekly drop-in programs are included with admission (see the separate listing), and a ticketed Feeding Frenzy evening lets visitors feed the residents with the animal care team.
