About this adventure

A 27-acre historic farm park in east Raleigh that tells the story of the people who lived and worked on the land, including enslaved people, sharecroppers and tenant farmers. Start at the Farm History Center, the visitor center, with exhibits on North Carolina agricultural history, an authentic sharecropper's cabin and the Farmer's Corner, an interactive play-and-learn area for kids. Families can check out Adventure Backpacks, self-guided activity kits with hands-on games about Oak View's history. Outside, children can visit the goats in the corral behind the Tenant House (or in the Livestock Barn on rainy days) and the chickens beside the Tenant House, walk past the cotton field, fruit orchard, kitchen garden and pecan grove, try catch-and-release cane-pole fishing in two ponds, and walk the stroller-friendly 4/10-mile Hunnicut Trail or the 7/10-mile Jones Creek Trail.
