A ranger leads a 5-mile round-trip hike to the dinosaur tracks at Government Canyon, left 100 million years ago by a sauropod and a theropod on a muddy beach that is now rock. Along the way the ranger explains what scientists know about the tracks. The hike is open to ages 10 and up with a parent or guardian, and it is not easy: very rough, rocky ground with elevation gain and loss. It leaves promptly at 9 am from the Rainwater Tower outside the Visitor Center and is limited to the first 15 people who check in; no pre-registration. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and a snack. No pets.
