Family Studio is SFMOMA's free drop-in art-making workshop for the whole family in the Koret Education Center on Floor 2, Sundays 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.; no museum admission is required for the workshop, and children 18 and younger always get free museum admission. On Sunday, October 18, 2026 (Family Studio: Spiders) families build spider sculptures from reused materials with SCRAP educators, inspired by Louise Bourgeois's The Nest, with a short family-friendly tour of the Floor 6 galleries at noon. On Sunday, November 8, 2026 (Family Studio: Lines That Move) families use a variety of materials to make drawings that seem to move, inspired by William Kentridge's stop-motion charcoal drawings; Kentridge gives an artist talk at 2 p.m. in the Phyllis Wattis Theater. Each session includes book browsing, block play and a book raffle.
