About this adventure
The 10th annual Oakland Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving-morning 5K and 10K run/walk around Lake Merritt, starting from Eastshore Park, with a short Kids Race for ages 2 to 7. The organizers bill it as a 5K and Festival of Thanks that benefits local causes; partners named on the page include the Mayor's Office, the Alameda County Community Food Bank and the Oakland Education Fund. Adults and kids who finish receive medals. Local artists decorate the start line, mile markers and a photo backdrop. Families with toddlers and preschoolers can sign up for the 9:40 AM Kids Race while older children walk or run the 5K with a grown-up from 8:30 AM.
