Sausalito's Winterfest opens on Saturday evening, December 12, with the 39th annual Lighted Boat Parade along the town's waterfront. Boats decorated in holiday lights cruise past Gabrielson Park starting at 6 PM, and a fireworks show over the bay follows at about 7:15 PM. Watching is free from the public waterfront viewing areas; reserved premium seats open at 5 PM for those who buy them, but they are not needed to see the parade. The organizers warn that the park and waterfront fill up early in the afternoon, so families planning to watch with children should arrive well ahead of the start or scout an alternative spot along the shore. The parade goes ahead rain or shine. Local boat owners can still register their vessels to take part. The Winterfest weekend continues the next morning with the Jingle Bell 5K and a kids' fun run on Humboldt Avenue.
