Morning at the Museum is a free, sensory-friendly program for neurodivergent children, teenagers and young adults and their families, who visit a Smithsonian museum before it opens to the public. On Saturday, December 12, 2026, from 10 to 11:30 am, families can explore the shared building of the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum at their own pace and take part in activities independently. Pre-registered families receive pre-visit materials — social narratives, sensory maps, visual schedules and tip sheets — to prepare. Questions go to the Smithsonian's accessibility office at access@si.edu.
