About this adventure

Families help a park ranger raise a full-size tipi in the picnic area at Lockhart State Park and learn about the Native American cultures of the Plains who lived in them: how the poles and cover go together, how a tipi was moved, and how it stood up to prairie weather. It is hands-on and works for all ages, with older kids able to help with the poles and younger ones exploring inside once it is up. The program lasts an hour. It cannot run safely if wind gusts exceed 20 mph, so check the event page on the day; any cancellation is posted at least 1.5 hours before the start. No registration is required; dress for the weather and bring water.
