Rochester Opera House's own youth performers stage Seussical the Musical Jr., the young-performer version of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's Dr. Seuss musical, in the historic opera house in downtown Rochester, New Hampshire. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust holding the tiny Whos and must protect them, and also guard an abandoned egg left by Mayzie La Bird, with Gertrude McFuzz and Jojo along the way. The show's themes are friendship, loyalty and being yourself, and its familiar characters make it an easy first musical for young children, while older kids may enjoy seeing local young actors on stage. Performances: Thursday November 12 at 7pm, Saturday November 14 at 11am, and Sunday November 15 at 11am and 2pm. General admission is $14 including fees. Tickets are sold online, at Stage Door Tickets and More (1 Wakefield St., open Wed/Fri/Sat noon-6pm) and at the historic box office two hours before each show; doors open 30 minutes before curtain.
