About this adventure

The DeKalb Park District's sled hill in Hopkins Park is free for residents and non-residents whenever there is snow, during regular park hours: daily from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. The park district calls it one of the highest points in DeKalb, with a 52-foot drop from the top flat to the bottom flat and a total run of about 330 feet. Families bring their own sleds and park at the Hopkins Park Shelter. The hill is for sledding only, with no skis or snowboards, and only on the side and in the areas designated for sledding; building ramps or moguls is not allowed, and smoking and alcohol are prohibited. No supervision is provided: users decide whether conditions are right for sledding, and parents and guardians are responsible for their children's safety and behavior. The ice rink at the same park was closed for the 2025–2026 season for updates and construction, and the page does not yet give 2026–27 rink dates.
