About this adventure
Little Acorns gives three- to five-year-olds their own morning in the woods at Wint Nature Center, the Oakland County Parks nature center in Independence Oaks County Park near Clarkston. Parents drop children off for two hours on Tuesdays, and a naturalist leads the small group through a weekly theme with short hikes, discovery games and hands-on exploration of whatever the season offers outdoors. The program is designed to build curiosity and independence, so children need to be potty-trained and comfortable being away from a parent for the morning. Pack a snack and a water bottle and dress for outdoor play; the group heads inside only when the weather turns severe. The winter series covers eight Tuesdays from January 12 to March 2, and it is booked and paid for as a whole series rather than by the day.
