About this adventure

At Wint Nature Center in Independence Oaks County Park, Friday mornings in winter belong to toddlers and preschoolers with their parents or caregivers. Tiny Twigs lets the children lead: a county naturalist sets a new theme each week, and from there the kids decide whether to splash through puddles, search for tiny creatures or collect natural treasures along the way. Movement and play come first, with the aim of growing confidence and a sense of belonging outdoors from a very young age. One hour is about right for short attention spans, and the program is priced by the class, so families can pick the Fridays that fit. Bundle children up in layers and waterproof boots. The winter run starts January 15 and continues to March 5, following a fall series that wraps up on December 4.
