A hip hop retelling of The Nutcracker set to Tchaikovsky's music, directed and choreographed by Jennifer Weber. A dozen dancers, a DJ and a violinist perform, and MC Kurtis Blow opens the show with a short set. Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince still battle mice and visit the land of sweets, but digital graffiti and projections move the story from 19th-century Germany to present-day New York City. One performance at State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick, recommended for ages 5 and up. Anyone under 18 must sit directly next to a parent or guardian, and everyone entering needs a ticket; there are no infant vouchers for this show.
