About this adventure
Downtown Elkton opens the season with its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony on the first Friday of December. The evening is aimed at families: children can visit with Santa and pick up a bag of treats, and carolers perform while the town tree is lit on Main Street. It runs from 5:30 to 8 pm, so families with young children can come for the lighting and a Santa visit and still be home early. The listing does not mention a fee. A week later, on December 11, downtown merchants hold a Christmas Cookie Throwdown where visitors sample cookies, vote for a favorite and take photos at the tree.
