About this adventure

Newport's historic Bowen's Wharf marks the start of its holiday season with an all-afternoon tree lighting on the working waterfront. Festivities begin around 12:30 PM with a visit from Santa, followed by an afternoon of performances by local musicians and choruses. A highlight for children is the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus, who motor into Bowen's Basin by boat (weather permitting) ready to hear every child's wish. The wharf's enormous tree is lit promptly at 6:00 PM. Families can mix the program with holiday shopping in the wharf's locally owned shops, many of which offer sweet refreshments, and the restaurants stay open for meals. Dress warmly: the event is outdoors on the harbor.
