The Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (H.A.R.D.) celebrates the season with three free Holiday Lights evenings at its historic mansions, each decorated with lights, on consecutive nights in early December. The final night, Thursday, December 3, is at Meek Mansion in Meek Estate Park on Hampton Road. From 5:30 to 7:30 PM families can enjoy live entertainment and festive music, make holiday crafts and warm up with cozy refreshments. The evenings are billed as free and family-friendly and go ahead rain or shine, so bring a jacket and an umbrella if the forecast is wet. The two earlier nights are at Mt. Eden Mansion on December 1 and McConaghy House on December 2, so families who miss this one have other options nearby. An evening visit after dark is the best way to see the lights, and the two-hour window suits young children who need an early bedtime.
