About this adventure

San Francisco Ballet runs sensory-friendly versions of its Nutcracker Dance-Along workshops for neurodiverse children, with two hour-long sessions on Sunday, December 20: ages 5 to 12 with their grown-ups from 1 to 2 PM, and teens and young adults 13 to 22 and up from 2:15 to 3:15 PM. Designed with Autism Fun Bay Area, the Autism Society San Francisco Bay Area and the College of Adaptive Arts, the hour-long studio class is tailored to participants' sensory and behavioral needs: a guided warm-up and dance-along based on Nutcracker's story, music and characters, with tactile activities and take-home crafts afterward. All abilities and bodies are welcome, no dance experience is needed, and children can come in comfortable clothes or a favorite costume. A quiet room and family restrooms are available throughout. It is a good way to prepare for the company's sensory-friendly Nutcracker performance at the Opera House on December 27.
