About this adventure
Tiny Dances is San Francisco Ballet's new family series built as a first ballet for children aged 2 to 8, and its inaugural production is a shortened, child-friendly Swan Lake at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre on November 7 and 8. Adapted by SF Ballet associate artistic director Antonio Castilla and danced by SF Ballet School trainees and Level 8 students to recorded Tchaikovsky, the show has an on-stage narrator who guides children through the story and gives Odette an uplifting ending in place of the traditional tragedy. The performance runs about 80 minutes including a 20-minute intermission. Lobby doors open 45 minutes before curtain for pre-show activities and participatory dancing, and every show has a quiet space, stroller parking and concessions. Zone 1 and 2 seats include the Enchanted Experience, with early entry and a character photo. The Saturday 3 PM show is a sensory-friendly performance.
