About this adventure

Each Saturday in November the Hirshhorn's free drop-in Open Studio takes its cue from the museum's newly renovated Sculpture Garden. On Nov 14 families look at Mark Grotjahn's cardboard 'masks' and build sculptures from recycled cardboard and loose parts; on Nov 21 they study Yoshitomo Nara's giant white heads, Sentinels of Stillness, and model playful clay sculptures; on Nov 28 they learn about Caddo artist Raven Halfmoon's Dancing at Dusk and try coil-building with clay. Drop in any time during the four hours — the studio is in the Art School on the museum's Lower Level, materials are provided, and it suits children of all ages with their grown-ups.
