About this adventure

Rockville's annual holiday tree lighting fills The Square in Rockville Town Center on the first Friday evening of December. The city's community celebration brings live music and local performance groups to the stage, photos with Santa, skating on the seasonal rink at the Square, and other holiday activities, and this year adds the new Gibbs Street Holiday Market for gift shopping. The Square is also partnering with Toys for Tots: families who bring a new, unwrapped toy for the drive are entered in a raffle. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m., so families with young children can come early for Santa photos and the lighting, while older kids can stay to skate. The city's listing does not print a price; rink admission and skate rental at the Square normally cost extra, so bring money if your children want to skate. The Rockville Metro station (Red Line) is a short walk away.
