Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian

The National Museum of the American Indian in Washington holds a half-hour family story time on selected Saturday mornings at 11:15 in its imagiNATIONS Activity Center on Level 3. Each session features a children's book by a Native author or illustrator, or one created in collaboration with an Indigenous community. Families then look at objects from the museum's Teaching Collection, such as photographs, textiles or natural materials, that deepen their understanding of the community in the story, and finish with a craft or another activity. It is recommended for children ages 3 to 9 accompanied by an adult caregiver, and it is free. The story room holds at most 25 people and tickets may be needed to enter the Activity Center, so check in with staff at the Activity Center entrance desk. Sessions currently listed: October 24; November 7, 14 and 21; December 5, 12 and 19. The museum notes that the schedule may change without notice.
