About this adventure

Tiny Twigs is Oakland County Parks' weekly nature hour for the youngest explorers and the grown-ups who bring them, held on Friday mornings at Red Oaks Nature Center. Each week has a different theme, and the children set the pace: splashing through puddles, hunting for tiny creatures, collecting natural treasures and moving around outdoors while a naturalist guides the group. The aim is to build curiosity, confidence and a bond with nature through play rather than lessons, so it suits toddlers and preschoolers who are happiest exploring with a parent or caregiver beside them. Sessions last an hour. The winter series starts in mid-January and runs into early March, which makes it a good way to keep little ones outside through the cold months; dress children for mud, snow and wet grass. A fall series is running now on the same Friday schedule through early December.
