About this adventure

A one-hour introduction to archery in Stephen F. Austin State Park's inflatable archery range in San Felipe, taught by NASP-certified Basic Archery Instructors. Each class opens with a required safety briefing; anyone who arrives after it starts cannot shoot, so plan to arrive early. Participants then learn stance, drawing and aiming and practice on targets inside the enclosed range. There is no stated minimum age, but shooters must be at least 4 feet tall and able to draw the bow back with at least 10 pounds of pull on their own, which suits most school-age children and up. The class meets on the basketball court behind the Nature Center. Bring water, a hat, bug spray and sunscreen and dress for the weather. The class may be cancelled for winds over 20 mph, lightning within 6 miles, or a forecast of heavy rain. It is included with the daily park entrance.
