About this adventure
Operation Toy Train is a free holiday toy drive on rails: a vintage Woodstown Central Railroad freight train makes three scheduled community stops in Salem and Gloucester counties to collect new, unwrapped toys for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, and Santa traditionally joins the festivities. Families can see the historic railroad equipment up close, hand over a toy, and enjoy family-friendly activities at select stops. It is not a passenger excursion, so no train ticket is needed and nobody rides; children simply come to the stop that suits them. The midday stop is at the railroad's South Woodstown Station; the train also stops earlier in Salem and later in Swedesboro. Last year the route collected 368 toys, and the railroad hopes to beat that. A nice way to show children a working train and talk about giving during the season.
