About this adventure

New Bedford Ballet's holiday production retells The Nutcracker in the 1850s, at the height of New Bedford's whaling era, so the 'City That Lit the World' becomes the backdrop for young Mary's night of adventure. Set to Tchaikovsky's score, it features colorful characters from around the globe, including French, Russian and Spanish dancers alongside figures unique to New England, performed largely by the company's students. The organizer describes this as a simple version with narration that is engaging for children of all ages, which makes it a good first ballet for preschoolers and early-elementary children. There are two performances on Saturday, December 12, at 1 PM and 4 PM, in the auditorium of Keith Middle School.
