About this adventure

Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site near Four Oaks, in southern Johnston County, holds a family Fall Festival on the grounds of the largest Civil War battle fought in North Carolina. The day is built around the past: costumed volunteers demonstrate historic trades and everyday skills, children can play old-time games and make crafts, and there are wagon rides across the site. Local community groups set up tables, live music plays through the day, so it is worth bringing a blanket or folding chairs, and food trucks are on site for lunch. The festival runs from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is $5 for adults, and children 8 and under get in free, which makes it an affordable autumn day trip about 45 minutes from Raleigh along I-40 or I-95.
