About this adventure

SkateAbility is the Oakland Ice Center's learn-to-skate program developed especially for athletes with physical and developmental challenges. The downtown Oakland rink, operated by Sharks Ice, runs the class from 5:00 to 5:45 PM, and registration is on sale now through Sharks Ice's online registration system. The program puts fun and safety first, and dedicated staff work alongside skaters as they improve balance and coordination. The rink describes the goal as an "I can do it!" attitude that carries over into other parts of a participant's life, along with new skills, new friends and a sense of accomplishment. The page adds that medical and sports professionals have suggested supervised ice skating as healthy exercise for people with permanent physical, developmental or intellectual disabilities. One parent or aide gets free admission to come along with the skater. The program page does not print the class fee, the day of the week or the session dates, which are on the registration page, and questions go to the program contact named on the page.
