About this adventure

Rhode Island's first state park, a short drive from Providence, Pawtucket and Cumberland, covers 627 acres around Olney Pond. A covered bridge greets visitors at the Breakneck Hill entrance, and a loop road around the pond is popular with walkers and kids on bikes. Off-season, families come for hiking, trout fishing, ball fields and picnics; multi-use trails east of Quinsnicket Road are open to mountain biking, while trails to the west are reserved for horses (Sunset Stables operates riding in the park). In winter it is one of three state park sites where the ice is tested for safe skating. The freshwater swimming beach, with lifeguards, and the restrooms are seasonal (restrooms May 1 to October 31). Leashed dogs are welcome. The RI State Parks Naturalist Program offers environmental education for all ages.
