Wimberley's New Year's Eve ball drop is built for families who want the countdown without the midnight bedtime. On Thursday, December 31, the town gathers downtown for an early evening of festive music and food, and at 7 p.m. a sparkling ball drops from 130 feet in the air in the middle of the village. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets, claim a spot early, and grab dinner or a treat from one of the downtown restaurants before the countdown. Little kids get the whole celebration, noisemakers and all, and can still be home in pajamas well before the real new year arrives.
