About this adventure
A free, hands-on family workshop with artist Brittany Monet at the Smithsonian's Anacostia Community Museum. Families make their own zines — small handmade booklets for telling a story or exploring an idea — inspired by Carter G. Woodson, the 'Father of Black History' and longtime Shaw resident, who worked with artists such as Loïs Mailou Jones on illustrated books about African American history. The workshop marks the 100th anniversary of Black History Month and the reopening of the Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site, and visitors can see Woodson's books and journals in the exhibition We Make History. Drop in during the three-hour window; everyone leaves with a finished zine.
